USDA Confirming Ukraine’s Grain Export Forecast

US Department of Agriculture (USDA) in its April report has increased the wheat production forecast for Ukraine in 2019-20 MY (marketing year i.e. July 2019 – June 2020) by 171,000 t comparing to the March forecast – up to 29.171M t, while the export forecast was left intact as 20.5M t.

According to the report, as published by the Department’s site, the prognosis of corn issue by Ukraine is improved by 87,000 t i.e. up to 35.887M t, while the export remains the same 32M t.

USDA Confirming Ukraine’s Grain Export Forecast

USDA has also enhanced in April the production of Ukrainian barley by 28,000 t, i.e. up to 9.528M t, leaving the export as well unchanged – 4.7M t.

Altogether the Ukraine’s grain harvest forecast in 2019-20 MY is advanced by 286,000 t – up to 75.72M t, while the export forecast is the same 57.34M t.

The world grain export forecast in 2019-20 MY is decreased down to 183.5M t against the expected a month earlier 184.1M t, which nevertheless still overruns the 2018-19 MY number of 175.4M t. What is lowered are the expectations regarding Russia (within 33.5M t), and USA (within 26.8M t). Simultaneously, the EU forecast is heightened up to 33.5M t, and that for Australia – to 8.2M t.

Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine jointly with the grain market players have signed the document to set up the wheat export limit for 2019-20 MY at the 20.2M t level.

Earlier the authority has forecast the export of grain from Ukraine in 2019-20 MY to enlarge to the record-breaking 52-55M t.

By the Ministry’s data, grain exports from Ukraine in 2018-19 MY reached the record of 49.743M t, including corn – 29.82M t, wheat – 15.57M t, and barley – 3.59M t.

The total grain exports from Ukraine in 2017-18 MY amounted to 39.3M t, and in 2016-17 MY – 43.8M t.
