LLC EVT Grain operating a grain terminal in the specialised sea port (SSP) Olvia has completed installing 4,000 piles to erect 20 new silos, as reported by the company’s Press Office.
Building those silos is the third ordinary phase of the company’s development. The piles sinking into the ground is the most complicated and laborious stage of the silos construction. These techniques’ advantage is reliability and steadiness of the structure, as well as the possibility of producing works on a tight schedule.
The piles were sunk 13 m deep. There are 200 piles installed under each silo followed by the concrete foundation of the future silos. At the time nine such foundations are ready, and the metal structures mounting is on as well as assembly of domes for three silos. By the beginning of 2020-21 marketing year the eight silos capable of 8,800 m3 are planned to be fully completed.
LLC EVT Grain is a port operator of SSP Olvia employing Berth 4, dedicated to handling grains, beans and oilseeds, forwarding and agency services. The first vessel was processed by the terminal in December 2018. Since then, EVT has achieved the throughput of 2.1M t, in 2019 the cargo turnover amounted to 1.49M t.
As for the SSP Olvia in general, in January – March 2020 it enlarged the throughput twice in comparison with the same period of 2019 i.e. up to 1.18M t, as per the official data by Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA). The exports have risen by 94.6% – up to 993,850 t; imports 2.9 times up to 169,810 t, cabotage – 3.3 times up to 17,020 t. The bulk cargo handling increased 2.4 times up to 966,220 t, in particular grain – 3.5 times, or up to 639,190 t.
General cargo throughput enlarged by 19.5% up to 214,460 t, among which the largest share being rolled metal products – by 22.5% up to 196,780 t. Container turnover amounted to 180 TEU against 30 of the last year’s period.
The port is situated 25 km down the river from Mykolaiv, the 1.53 km waterfront of seven berths operated by SE (state enterprise) Stevedoring Company Olvia, LLC EVT Grain, and SE Ukroboronservis (Ministry of Defence cargoes).
In 2019 SSP Olvia increased its throughput by 5.2% comparing to 2018 – up to 3.097M t, taking 1.9% of the entire Ukraine’s ports number.
The port’s public operator SE SC Olvia is in the process of transfer to concession to the tender winner QTerminals from Qatar. The process of transfer is on despite the difficult situation worldwide and in Ukraine, as Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklii declared lately: “Concession remains the basic way of Ukrainian sea ports, and not only them, modernisation and further development.”
On 29 April the second session of Olvia Port Concession Agreement Conditions’ Harmonization Working Group took place on-line. The agreement envisages 3.4Bn UAH invested in the port’s development.
