For the sake of river traffic reform efficient launch and inland water transport development, the state and business have to combine their efforts, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii stressed during the inauguration of a new river transhipment terminal by the company Nibulon in Dnipropetrovsk Region on 12 June.

“The river transport reform is among the paramount goals I work on since entering my office. We strive for making Ukraine a river power since we do possess appropriate resources and opportunities. The Dnipro is a waterway stretching over thousands kilometres and linking Ukraine with Europe which ought to become a vital traffic artery again. To achieve this it is essential to pass the bill on inland water transport in the second reading. Our aim is the same with the business namely to relieve the roads by transferring a considerable number of cargoes from motorways to the river”, said Minister.

According to him, one million tons of cargo transported by the river saves some billion UAH for the 4-years road repairs. Hence, last year there were almost 12M t of cargoes moved by the Dnipro, and within several years this number is planned to enlarge up to 45M t annually. Moreover, the river traffic reform is going to secure funding of safe river infrastructure and encourage development of shipbuilding, renovation of Ukrainian production facilities and new jobs creation. “Everybody wins from this, therefore both the state and the business should work jointly”, the Ministry’s leader noted.

Together with the Nibulon DG and head of the regional administration, Minister inspected production capacities of the new terminal, in particular truck unloaders, drying machinery, the laboratory, and agricultural products storage facilities (both for dry and wet grain).

The new terminal in Marianske village is a modern and fully automated agro infrastructure facility for reception, storage and final processing of agriproducts built in short terms under the corona-crisis conditions and meeting all the safety requirements. The enterprise will grant over 100 jobs to store 76,000 t of agriproducts at a time, to dry 3.6 t and load on water going vehicles 12,000 t of harvest per 24 hrs. Being capable of receiving 300,000 t of grain a year, it will relieve regional and inter-regional motor roads from more than 12,500 trucks.

Let’s remind you that on 24 April 2020 the parliament of Ukraine has passed in the first reading the draft Law on Inland Water Transport of Ukraine to push a start of river transportations.
