LLC Maritime Specialised Port Nika-Tera has completed the next phase of modernising Cargo Area 2 which is dedicated to dry bulk cargoes handling, as the company’s Press Office reports.
In particular, the port has accomplished the construction and launched the modern berth weighing complex operation. The new weighing complex consists of two technology lines, the maximum capacity of each being up to 1,800 m3 per hour.
The shore hopper scales’ mounting was carried out without pausing the main technological process of ships loading thanks to an individually designed process and unique assembly techniques. The berth weighing complex erecting completion has enabled to finish repurposing Cargo Area 2 to transhipment of grains and meals. Earlier this yard had been dedicated only to handling mineral fertilisers.
The new berth weighing complex has passed all the necessary tests and certification by National Scientific Centre ‘Institute of Metrology’.
There were more than 40M UAH invested in the Cargo Area 2 modernisation all in all. According to the port’s manager Alim Agakishiev, these investments have allowed to considerably enlarge the port’s throughput capacity, thus increasing the company’s potential. The new weighing complex enables to provide the agro cargoes weighing quicker and more precise during their transhipment to water transport.
The construction of this new weighing complex is a part of the port’s technical re-equipment large scale program. The Cargo Area 2 refurbishing has been fulfilled phase by phase since 2017 and included repurposing of warehouses from fertilisers to grains and meals, building two stations of trucks discharging, updating the railcars discharging station, as well as the berth weighing complex mounting.
Before that shore hopper scales had functioned only at Cargo Area 1 specialising on grain handling. Upon repurposing the second cargo yard, it is possible to simultaneously weigh and load with grains four vessels at separate quays.
“We build a modern port in accordance with the world’s best practices”, says Mr Agakishiev. “The new weighing complex costs $1M, and its technical specifications comply with all GAFTA (Grain and Feed Trade Association) rules.”
LLC Nika-Tera is situated at the left bank of the Bug-Dnieper Liman 34 miles north of the Black Sea. The Bug-Dnieper Liman Channel admits 10.3 m draught vessels. The seven quays’ waterfront comprises some 1.6 km. There are four specialised complexes (cargo areas) embraced by the terminal: grain, fertilisers, dry bulk open storage cargoes, and bulk liquids. In 2019 the company increased its cargo turnover by 48% in comparison with 2018 – up to 8.637M t.
