The Korean Posco International (former Posco Daewoo) has shown concern regarding a number of projects likely to be realised in the sea port of Mykolaiv. An expanded format meeting was held on 16 July with the port’s management and experts, and representatives of Posco and Orexim Group, as per the Mykolaiv port authority.

Having inspected the terminal construction and the course of Berth 10 reconstruction, the Korean and Orexim Group businessmen discussed with the Mykolaiv port authority management possibilities of cooperatrion at some other investment sites of the port, namely Berths14 (А), 16, and 17.

During the meeting PPP development prospects and opportunities of funds involvement into the investment projects development were considered as well.

Let’s remember that in February 2019 Posco International acquired a 75% share in the Orexim Group’s grain terminal in Mykolaiv Port. The Korean company declared that obtaining control over the grain terminal being constructed is going to enable Posco Daewoo providing export shipments of Ukrainian grain and effectively managing the resources. The bargain will also support the food safety of the Korean Republic.

The new terminal capable of above 140,000 t simultaneous storage had been planned to be launched by the marketing season start. The official opening was announced as on 16 July. The terminal is situated 300 m off the Yuzhny Bug river left bank. The waterfront of Mykolaiv sea trade port is immediately adjacent to it. The grain is to be delivered onboard ships from the terminal’s stores via a special gallery.

There have also been reported that the Korean company considers an option of acquiring a railcar depot of its own in Ukraine.
