Port Industry Embraces More Than Stevedoring

Focusing on the stevedoring activities only is not worth as regards the port industry, as claimed by UMG Director on Investments Nadiia Kaznacheieva during her speech at Ukrainian Ports Forum 2021.

“Industrial parks are the place where we can develop as well. Surely we shouldn’t stick with the stevedoring”, she noted.

According to the UMG Investments DoI, it isn’t worth also “re-inventing a Ukrainian wheel”, but there is a need to take and develop the best world practices like in Arab countries or the neighbouring Poland.

“We are ready to invest in industrial parks. This is going to create opportunities for other foreign investors as well to choose Ukraine as the site for their manufacturing assets”, added Kaznacheieva.

Port Industry Embraces More Than Stevedoring

She also stressed that an international business would invest where and when a local business invests: “There’s no better advertisement”, the UMG Investments DoI summarised.

Let’s remind you that the company UMG Investments is a part of the holding SCM and plans to realise its first greenfield infrastructure project i.e. to erect a new grain terminal in Pivdenny Port. “We have already started the grain terminal construction project realisation in Pivdenny Port. The designed capacity amounts to annual 9M t, capital investments total to over $150M, and we plan to build it in 2-3 years. We expect that Government and Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) will meet their obligations as concerns the relevant infrastructure development – dredging and railway stations”, had informed Ms Kaznacheieva that time.
