Minister and Ambassador Discussing EU Transport Law Implementation

Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii has met the EU Ambassador in Ukraine Matti Maasikas in the course of which they discussed the matters of cooperation by various ranges, as reports Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

“The parties have considered the Ukraine – EU Summit preparations, the situation with EU transport sector law implementation in Ukraine, as well as further cooperation by different directions”, the report says.

Mr Kryklii advised that Ministry of Infrastructure was improving its results as concerns the EU law implementation and fulfilment of the Ukraine–EU Association Agreement (AA).

“Eurointegration is our paramount goal. We actively cooperate with people’s deputies (MPs) in order the bill on inland waterways positively appraised by the European party would be adopted in the nearest time to launch the river traffic reform in Ukraine. There is also the draft law on multimodal transport developed by the Ministry and vital to be approved as well. Yet what should be prior to all of it is the draft law on railway transport to be passed by the legislature in order to not only implement the EU law, but also to play the key role in the railway reform”, noted Minister.

The EU Ambassador to Ukraine Mr Maasikas has in his turn pointed out the progress by Ukraine toward the Eurointegration and stressed upon the necessity of full EU law implementation in the field of infrastructure and transport.

Mr Kryklii has underlined that Ukraine reckons very much upon the soonest signing of Open Skies Agreement and has on its part met all the necessary requirements. by Minister, Ukrainian party had also addressed the European Commission with the purpose of solving the situation emerged between Poland and Ukraine regarding the motor road traffic permits.

“As of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement signing, the permit quota had amounted to 200,000 per annum. In the recent years it has been reduced by the Poland party down to 160,000 which violates the AA terms”, added the head of Ministry.

Besides that, the parties have discussed funding of important infrastructure projects in the road and maritime transport sectors as concerns the outer support of social and economic development of the Azov Sea adjacent Ukrainian regions (the so-called Azov Package). These are the projects of Zaporizhia – Mariupol railroad throughput capacity increase, the M-14 motor road capital repair in the Kherson – Mariupol range, and concession of Berdiansk Port’s public assets.
