‘Japanese’ Bridge in Mykolaiv in State’s Priority Projects List

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has announced the list of priority projects for 2020-2023

A new bridge across the river Pivdenny Bug in Mykolaiv is the so called Japanese bridge initially planned to be constructed for the funds of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Back in 2013 the project was presented in Mykolaiv being designed for 5 years of construction. The design envisaged building a road section to secure the connection Odessa – Melitopol – Novoazovsk in the area the village Polovinki in Mykolaiv Region. There was even His Excellency Ambassador of Japan visiting Mykolaiv to confirm the investment interest and importance of the bridge crossing over the Pivdenny Bug. However, finally the Japanese investors took the decision to fund another project.

In 2020 the things got moving: now the term of completion for the works on updating the feasibility study is September 2021. The next stage is the very construction’s design development, upon which – erection of the bridge crossing. The project’s realisation may take up to 8 years, estimated cost – $700M.

Let’s remind you that Government has approved the list of priority projects for 2020-2023. According to Minister of Infrastructure Vladyslav Kryklii, 40% of this list projects are in the field of infrastructure and transport.

“The age of successful public-private partnership is on. Top-priority investment projects, the list of which Government has just approved lately, embrace practically all the transport sectors”, commented Minister.

Ministry of Infrastructure is going to continue actively introducing concession ventures in sea ports. There are concessions of the railferry complex and container terminal in Chornomorsk port, passenger complex in Odessa port, some berths in Berdiansk port and other projects in the list of prospective investment cases. The said list also includes an investment project on enhancement of the port railway stations’ throughput and handling capabilities.
