First in 20 Years Reconstruction of Access Canal in Chornomorsk Complete

Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) signed on 21 December with China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) documents on the Chornomorsk Port access canal reconstruction works completion.
As a result of the dredging, the canal’s dimensions were enlarged: length – up to 1,600 m, width – to 160 m, and depth – to 16 m.
Now the dredging fleet of CHEC works in the Sukhoi Liman first basin operational area. The first phase of the operational area deepening is already completed, and the second has started. Upon completion of all the three phases, the depths at the central part of the Sukhoi Liman first basin operational area are going to reach 15 m.
Let’s remind that the dredging project of USPA in the port of Chornomorsk was launched in August 2018. It consists of the two directions: the sea access canal deepening and dredging the Sukhoi Liman first basin operational area.
“For the last 20 years the number of large tonnage vessels of 14 m draught and more has substantially increased. That’s why the port’s future development depends on realisation of the access canal and Sukhoi Liman first basin reconstruction projects. These projects completed, both public and private stevedoring companies operating in the port will be able to admit large tonnage Panamax and post-Panamax ships of up to 14.5 m draught” commented on the course of works USPA manager Raivis Veckagans.
Let’s note the visible progress of the dredging works in Chornomorsk port: as on the mid October they were completed by 65 %.
