The European Commission (EC) has budgeted 140M Euro for the countries of Eastern Partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine) to fight coronavirus.
“In the framework of coronavirus outbreak global response EC supports the Eastern Partnership nations. EC has taken the decision to allocate €140M to the program member states. Moreover, the Commission is going to assign funds at up to in order to help mitigate the coronavirus’s social and economic impact”, the EC report says.
European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Olivér Várhelyi who is quoted in the report says that these are very hard times not only for the EU, but for the partnering countries as well.
“We are doing our best to mitigate the Covid-19 outbreak’s effect on the human life. We respond both to the daily needs of health care systems and more long-term necessities of the society’s most vulnerable groups and small and medium-size enterprises that serve the base of economy in the six countries,” he said.
It is pointed out that EC by request of the partnership states will respond to daily needs supporting deliveries of medical appliances and equipment such as resuscitation machines, lab kits, masks, protection goggles, gowns and overalls.
“The European Commission cooperates with World Health Organisation (WHO) and is going to allocate €30M for securing procurements and efficient distribution of these funds between health care systems of the six countries in the next few weeks,” the report says.
