European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has acquired 100% share of Danube Logistics SRL equity, becoming the only beneficiary owner proprietor of the international port Giurgiulesti (Moldova) operator, as reported by the bank’s Press Office.

EBRD Becoming Single Owner of Giurgiulesti Port Operator

“By this acquisition EBRD strives to promote continuing the successful work and development of International Free Port Giurgiulesti, and it will be committed to attract international investors to further support and develop the port. As the owner, EBRD anticipates soonest realisation of all the outstanding investment liabilities as stipulated by Agreement on Investments of 2004 signed by Danube Logistics, Bemol Refinery, and Bemol Retail, which is going to bring benefit to and accelerate the economic development of Moldova”, noted the report.

EBRD used to back the construction and operation of International Free Port Giurgiulesti since 1995, and in 2013 replaced Credit Suisse as the main economic beneficiary of the port’s operation, following refinancing of the Suisse unrecovered loans to Danube Logistics.

International Free Port Giurgiulesti is situated at the point of Prut river inflow to the Danube facing the junction of Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine borders. On average the port annually favours the Moldovan companies’ international trade with over 50 countries.

EBRD is the largest foreign investor in Moldova having laid in total €1.4Bn.
