Azov Ports Demonstrating Growth despite Crisis

In defiance of the Covid-19 crisis and tough working conditions due to the close military operations, the sea ports of Berdiansk and Mariupol keep on developing and producing positive results. Such dynamics have been mentioned lately by Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii, as reports the ministry’s Press Office.

“In spite of various circumstances concerned with both pandemic crisis and geographical peculiarities of the ports in Berdiansk and Mariupol, the continue showing positive growth. For the first quarter of this year the enterprises have considerably enlarged cargo handling numbers and their incomes. This work’s index is perfect”, declared Mr Kryklii during his working visit in Zaporizhia Region on Friday 05 June.

According to the ministry’s data, for the first quarter of 2020 Berdiansk Port handled 749,000 t of cargoes, thus having doubled its own results for the same period of the previous year. The company’s incomes have grown by 75% for the first quarter. For the same time Mariupol Port transhipped 2.211M t of cargoes, which was by 33% more than January-March 2019. The port’s incomes increased by 24% for the first 3 months of 2020.

Moreover, the public enterprises work hard to realise important infrastructure projects. As for Berdiansk Port these are arrangements towards operational dredging, reconstruction of Berths 6 – 9 and port’s grain terminal. As concerns Mariupol, it is the grain terminal construction at the territory of public stevedore, as well as reconstruction of berthing facilities, operational harbours and hydraulic parts of Berth 4.

There is also nowadays elaboration of the preliminary feasibility study (pre-FS) on concession of the state enterprise Berdiansk Sea Trade Port (please see in this news blog for May).
