DPW to Buy 51% Share of TIS Container Terminal

A global port operator DP World (UAE) is purchasing 51% stock of the container terminal TIS in Pivdenny (former Yuzhny) port, as reported by TIS Press Office.

“Today DP World is entering Ukraine. One of the world’s leaders of the port industry has announced gaining the controlling interest in TIS CTU … Since today TIS is a member of the DPW global family which warrants a highest level of service!”, wrote the co-owner of TIS Andrey Stavnitser in his Facebook.

According to the Press Office, the transaction was implemented by the investment company SD Capital. The bargain has joined the top 5 of direct M&A by a foreign investor in Ukrainian infrastructure sector.

“We are glad to expand our involvement in Ukraine. DP World highly appreciates the TIS container terminal’s growth potential. Our company’s aim is to create best sectoral solutions optimising the global supply chain. We believe that our strategic partnership will enable TIS CT to strengthen its positions at the world maritime chart”, said DPW Head of Board and Director General Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem.

Among the foremost plans of DP World are introduction of latest IT decisions and the grouop’s global expertise in the work of TIS CT, focusing on the cargo transfer intermodal segment, reinforcement of the terminal’s team with top executives from the whole world, and development of an industrial park on the model of Jebel Ali Free Zone on the terminal’s own lands already purchased by TIS.

TIS CT is the most deep-sea container terminal in Ukraine linked by 15 weekly box trains with Kyiv, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Dnipro, and Chernihiv.

SD Capital has realised already three large investment projects participated by major international companies: a modern grain terminal construction with the American trader Cargill, acquisition of the towage operator P&O Maritime in Ukraine, and the DPW entrance talked about.

DP World (HQ in Dubai) is one of the mightiest global port operators operating 150 businesses in 50 countries, and managing 78 sea terminals worldwide with the total staff of 45,000. In 2019 its aggregate box throughput amounted to 71.2M TEU.
