Container Terminal Odessa Considering Concession

The daughter company Container Terminal Odessa (CTO) of the German group Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) looks into a possibility of signing the concession agreement, as reports Press Office of Odessa port authority.

“At the moment a prospect of signing the concession agreement with CTO according to the law in force is under consideration by Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine (MIU). In the nearest time the investing company will inform MIU on the outcome of its investigation into the suggested form of cooperation”, the report says.

As the Press Office further noted, the idea was voiced by Head of Odessa port authority Ruslan Sakhautdinov during his meeting with Chairman of Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine Dmytro Razumkov who visited the port on Thursday.

In the course of this visit the speaker called on the new Berth 2-k operated by CTO. The visit was also attended by CTO President Phillip Sweens and General Director Anastas Kokkin.

Mr. Sakhautdinov familiarized Mr Razumkov with the current situation of the container terminal phased construction. The head of port authority, inter alia drew the speaker’s attention to problem issues of the project’s implementation. In particular, the funding of waterworks construction’s completion was spoken about.

CTO operates Berths 2, 1-k, and 2-k of Odessa port with the 650 m waterfront and 19 ha of storage area. The terminal’s design envisages the annual cargo throughput enlarging up to 1.2M TEU. In 2019 the company augmented its box turnover by 15.3% comparing to 2018 up i.e. up to 389,900 TEU. The whole container terminal project is realised on the terms of public-private partnership.
