Ukraine Intending to Join IMO and EBRD Memorandum of Cooperation in Maritime Sector

Ukraine is concerned in becoming a party to Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between International Maritime Organisation (IMO) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on cooperation in the maritime sector signed in February 2018. Ukraine’s participation in this MoU realisation is supported by IMO. “We address EBRD with the proposal to include Ukraine in the target list”, declared today on 25 November 2019 Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii in the course of meeting with EBRD Sustainable Infrastructure Group Managing Director Nandita Parshad.

Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine gratified the bank for its fruitful cooperation in respect of supporting the transport infrastructure development projects. Vladyslav Kryklii marked such projects as: Framework Agreement between EBRD and Ukrainian Railways (UZ) envisaging USD 100M channelled into rail infrastructure upgrade of international transport corridors TEN-T; MoU between Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and EBRD by 22 November 2019 providing for €450M from the bank assigned for the roads restoration.

Considerable attention during the meeting was paid to EBRD’s participation in concession projects implementation. Both parties expressed their eagerness to cooperate further with regard to concessions of airports, railway stations, sea ports and motor roads. Minister thanked for rendering technical assistance to preparation of PPP pilot projects in the ports of Olvia and Kherson.

Mr Kryklii conveyed the hope on future collaboration in the project of motor roads transport and operational conditions enhancement at the Kyiv city approaches, and the project of Ukraine’s air navigation system modernisation, being realised for credits of both EIB and EBRD. Minister stressed on importance of Ukraine road traffic safety project realisation with the main goal to improve municipal road infrastructure and decrease road accidents in the cities of Lviv, Odessa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Kamianets-Podilsky.

“We await for the decision by EBRD Board of Directors concerned with co-funding of this project”, noted Minister.

Ministry is also concerned in EBRD funds involvement in support of inland waterways development.
