JS Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) and LLC Ukrferry intend to foster the intermodal route Turkey – Ukraine – Poland, as reported by Edvin Berzins, Executive Director of the Transport Service Centre (TSC) Liski.

On 24 December 2020 TSC Liski signed a memorandum of cooperation with Ukrferry and FerriPlus to develop the multimodal path Turkey – Ukraine – Poland.

“The memorandum is open for signature by any company wishing to take part in the route’s elaboration and operation”, Mr Berzins wrote in his Facebook.

According to him, the instrument witnesses the parties’ concern in setting up container and contrailer transportation along the mentioned route.

Now cargoes get to Europe by the railway line Baku – Tbilisi – Kars. An opportunity of shipping them via the Black Sea is going to secure faster communication with the northern states of Europe.

In December 2020 USPA and Gdansk Port agreed to cooperate in establishing a transport corridor to link the Black and Baltic Seas. The main attention will be paid to the railway traffic of cargoes by the route embracing Gdansk Port, Warsaw, Dorohusk or Medyka, and further on to Ukrainian Black Sea ports, primarily to Odessa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdenny.

As it was earlier reported, Ukrzaliznytsia is at the final negotiating phase to sign long-term agreements with the companies DHL, PKP Cargo Connect, and BTLC Germany on container transfers to Europe and Asia with TSC Liski as the operator.

There are 36 container trains regularly crossing Ukraine’s territory established by Ukrzaliznytsia, while the container traffic share is only 2.3% of the total rail cargo traffic by Ukraine’s railway transport.
