Ukraine Exporting Record Numbers of By-Prods

It is reported that China’s share comprises 43% of the total export volume, and India has jumped up high in the rating as a sunseed cake importer in 2019-20 marketing year (MY), according to the annual market study “Export of Ukrainian Cake/Meal from Ports of Ukraine” provided by the ukrainian company Stark Shipping.

Ukraine in 2019-20 MY (September 2019 – August 2020) exported a record volume of cakes and meals (container shipments not accounted) i.e. 4.146M t, which is by 10% more than the corresponding number of the previous MY.

It is pointed out that Ukraine sells cakes and meals in 20 countries over the world, the top 5 of which buying 75.4% of the total number of oilseeds extraction by-prods. In particular, China imports 1.773M t, France – 406,000 t, Turkey – 371,000 t, Spain – 288,000 t, and Morocco – 281,000 t.

It is also reported that China embraces 43% of the total export number. For the period reported China has considerably enlarged the import of Ukrainian sunflower seed cake up to the said above 1.773M t to be compared with 948,526 t in the similar period of the last year.

“In 2019-2020 MY a significant leap of India as a sunseed cake importer was noticed, even despite the raise of import dues. Ukrainian sunseed cake is well in demand thanks to its high nutritious quality that is endorsed by a large share of soluble proteins in it – 68% and more”, says the study report.

All the while, the EU countries keep on lowering import volumes in this MY as well. Say, the Netherlands – the leading cake importer in the EU – has reduced the import by 71%.

As per the study data, the biggest exporters of cake/meal were Kernel with 999,000 t, Bunge – 672,000 t, Alfa Trading – 275,000 t, COFCO – 257,000 t, Garsan – 248,000 t, Cargill – 233,000 t. This top six of exporters ships over 60% of the total number.

The rating of Ukrainian cake/meal exporting terminals (w/o containers) is headed by Nika-Tera with 959,000 t (being 23.1% of the market), Greentour – 422,000 t (10,2%), and Risoil – 248,000 t (6%).

The terminal Nika-Tera is #1 in this terminals rating for the second year running, having processed by 19% more than in the previous MY.

Let’s remind you that in this MY the export of sunflower oil by sea shown a record growth: Ukraine shipped via its sea ports and terminals 6.6M t of sunoil which is by 300,000 t more than the previous MY. this number is a new export record for this Ukrainian product.

In 2019-20 MY edible oils took only 5% of the total Ukraine’s export shipped by sea. The main share was traditionally kept by the sunflower oil – 92.8% (w/o containers), or 5.28M t. The export of sunoil in 2019-20 reached its historical maximum having the record of 2018-19 MY overrun by 2.8% (5.17M t).
