Akkon Lines, a Turkish container trade company, is coming to services of the terminal DP World TIS Pivdennyi.

As reported by the terminal’s Press Office, a corresponding agreement was signed on 26 August 2021 by DP World TIS Pivdennyi Director General Igor Zhigora and Akkon Shipping DG Salim Isil. The first ship call at the terminal is scheduled on the first third of September.

This regular weekly service will ensure fast and direct connection between the box terminal in Pivdenny Port and the Turkish key ports Ambarli and Gebze.

Shorter and more flexible routes will accelerate maritime logistics between DP World TIS Pivdennyi and Turkey and facilitate the Ukrainian business’s reach to other Turkish ports, in particular Gemlik, Mersin, and Aliaga.

As a consequence, Ukrainian cargo owners will be able to get an additional convenient access to the Black Sea, Mediterranean, and North African markets: Constanta in Romania, Valencia, Barcelona, and Castellon of Spain, Salerno and Genova of Italy, Sussa and Bizerte of Tunisia, Algerian Annaba, and so on.

Akkon Lines opens up Ukraine for itself with a reliable partner – DP World TIS Pivdennyi being a part of the DP World’a port group.

“We are entering Ukrainian market for the first time, the country is the leader of container turnover in the Black Sea and has a strategically important location. This cooperation will give us access to the multimodal infrastructure of Ukrainian partners, including a network of so-called dry ports and railway terminals. Akkon Lines will bring to Ukraine impeccable quality of services to highest international standards, opening up opportunities for Ukrainian business to enter the North African and Mediterranean markets. We are sincerely impressed by the philosophy of DP World port-centric logistics and their container terminal in Ukraine, so we are convinced of our partnership’s success”, commented Igor Bogdanov, Director of Akkon Shipping Ukraine, AKKON Lines agent in Ukraine.

“We are pleased to welcome Akkon Lines to Ukraine and sincerely thank our Turkish partners for their high confidence in DP World TIS Pivdennyi. Our cooperation is an indicator of the Ukraine’s acceptance by the international market and intensive development of Ukrainian market in a difficult period of a pandemic for the industry. We focus on multimodal transportation development, modern port infrastructure, integrated customer services, and this strategy is successful, as evidenced by the interest by international lines and the increase of container turnover, even despite the pandemic. Therefore, the terminal will continue to invest in its own capacities, develop additional services and multimodality in order to offer its customers new and even better services”, said Igor Zhigora.

DP World TIS Pivdennyi is the leading deep-water terminal in Ukraine (depth at berths is 15 m). The terminal has its own well-developed railway infrastructure and was the first among Ukrainian seaports to introduce the service of regular block trains. DP World acquired 51% of the terminal’s shares in June 2020, the rest belongs to the Ukrainian co-owners of the TIS port, in particular, Andrey Stavnitser and Yegor Grebennikov. By the end of 2020, the terminal increased its container throughput by 12% compared to 2019 – up to 245 thousand TEU.

The Akkon Lines container service was founded in 2018 under the auspices of Akkon Maritime Transport and Trade A.S. in partnership with Akarlar Shipping. The latter has a 50-year history in Turkish maritime sector. Its dedication is container shipping in the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins.
