Protectionism in Maritime Economies Study from the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) examines the relationship between restrictive maritime trade policies and economic growth.
In its results, the study discusses the benefits countries would reap, such as a 3.4% increase in GDP, if protectionist policies in trade were to be reduced or dismissed.
The analysis illustrates how in the age of trade wars among the most powerful nations, together with disruptors like Brexit, COVID-19, and unexpected political outcomes, protectionism, anti-trade rhetoric, and misguided nationalism can easily become weapons of self-harm.
