Realisation of the first project on electrification of the railroad section Dolynska – Mykolaiv for the credit funds by European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is going to start in 2021.

“The credit agreement with EBRD on the amount of 150M Euro on the project of the Dolynska – Mykolaiv – Kolosivka rail track was ratified in last year December. European Investment Bank (EIB) co-credits this project on 150M Euro more”, Press Office of Ministry of Finance of Ukraine reports.

Now the tender procedure is on. Next year the works on electrification of the sector Dolynska – Mykolaiv are to start at the total 148 km length of it.

“This project implemented will enhance the railroad’s throughput capacity towards Mykolaiv port cluster that is among the largest ones on Ukraine and handles annually above 25M t of cargoes”, declared Vice Minister of Finance Oleksandr Kava.

It is pointed out that this section’s electrification will enable launching Intercity+ high-speed electric trains connecting Kyiv and Mykolaiv within some 5 hours.

“Realisation of this project is going also to substantially improve the ecological situation in Mykolaiv as the level of harmful emissions to the air will considerably shrink due to the introduction of electric trains instead of diesel ones”, added Mr Kava.

Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has to decide as well in respect of the 105-km long Kolosivka – Mykolaiv rail track electrification till the end of the year, which could also be funded by the EBRD and EIB credits.
