Qatari Port Operator Planning to Create Grain Hub in Olvia

The port operator QTerminals from Qatar as the concessionaire of Stevedoring Company Olvia public assets purports to develop the port in the capacity of a grain hub.

This was reported at the Olvia and Kherson concession projects presentation today in Kyiv by the winner’s representative Neville Bissett.

“We aim at turning Olvia into a grain hub. It boasts a good geographic position enabling to create a good product”, he stated.

According to the presentation by QTerminals, the concession venture’s start is scheduled on April/May 2020. It envisages upgrading of the grain terminal at Berth 2, renovation of cranes and loading equipment, enhancement of storage facilities.

Also the company intends to build a new grain terminal comprising 2 new-built berths having 3 cranes each, and a belt conveyor loader installed. There are erection of silos and arrangement of loading gear for rail and road transport planned as well.

Moreover, QTerminals designs to refurbish buildings, roads, power networks at the port territory.

On the whole the Qatari company intends to invest 124M USD into the project till 2024.

Let’s remind you that QTerminals have won the concession tender for the Stevedoring Company Olvia public assets. QTerminals is a port operator managing 2 terminals for containers, Rо-Rо and general cargoes in the port of Hamad (Qatar). As on August 2019 it had almost 3M TEU and 7M t of general cargo handled for less than 3 years. Olvia is going to be the company’s first international experience.
