LLC EVT Grain that operates a grain terminal in the specialised sea port (SSP) Olvia has signed a contract with LLC ArcelorMittal Projects Ukraina on supply of sheetpiles for the new berth construction, as reported by the company’s Press Office.

According to LLC EVT Grain Director Serhiy Hunko, the solution suggested by the international company ArcelorMittal Projects had been earlier applied in construction of large international sea ports with deep-sea high-tech berths. “The structural peculiarities of sheetpiles to be utilised in the course of our berth’s construction will make it durable, economical, stable, and enable it to sustain severe loads”, he underlined.

The piles are to be manufactured in Luxemburg and delivered by sea right at the terminal in August – September. There will be around 750 t of piles delivered under the contract.

“We have accomplished the first two AGI produced silos assemblage planning to mount six more such large cans for storage – 8,800 m3 capacity each”, the report says.

“The new silos construction is going to help us ramp up simultaneous storage capacities at the terminal by the beginning of MY (marketing year) up to 270,000 t. Then, by the start of corn harvesting season we plan to assembly all the 20 silos and therefore expand the one-time storage capacity up to 350,000 t”, added the PO.

LLC EVT Grain is a port operator of SSP Olvia and employs Berth 4. The terminal is dedicated to handling grain, beans and oilseeds, forwarding and agency services. The first vessel was processed in December 2018.

They have the operational water area and approach channel under their management, as well as their own quay 280 m long and 11.5 m deep, warehouses and technological facilities. The storage capacities comprise two floor storage depots for 180,000 t total, and four silos of 6,500 t each. The existing facilities enable to handle up to 2M t of grain per annum.

In 2020 the terminal is fulfilling its final phase of development. Erection of 20 grain silos, a universal quay 180 m long and 11.5 m deep is announced, as well as installation of another ship loading machine. Upon the second berth construction the total waterfront will amount to 0.5 km. After the storage capacities are enlarged, and additional handling equipment is launched, the terminal’s annual capacity will reach 4M t.

Since its activities commenced, by mid March 2020 EVT terminal has achieved 2.1M t of throughput, having fixed the cargo turnover in 2019 as 1.49M t.
