The company plans to admit containers, dry bulk and general cargoes.

Euroterminal LLC has commenced building the approach rail track to the station Odesa-Peresyp with the capacity of up to 1M t of cargoes a year, as per the company’s report.

“The rail track Euroterminal is constructing would enable to handle a greater number of containers and recede the load on city streets caused by high-load vehicles moving by, and slacken the expenses of shippers, forwarders, and other transport process stakeholders. Moreover, the new rail track is going to become an additional incentive to develop logistics both for Dry Port and for the adjacent areas”, commented Oleksandr Eismont, DG of the company Euroterminal.

Nowadays there are up to 20% of boxed cargoes coming into Odessa Port be railway. The rest is taken care of by the road transport.

Such a distribution of the cargo flows is explained primarily by the port’s and Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaiznytsia) Odessa-Port station’s rail tracks throughput capacity mismatch. The station can handle 792 rail wagons per 24 hours. While the port is capable of several times more.

“It is particularly perceivable at the times of peak loads on the railways – in spring and autumn, when the sea terminals are busy with the exported grains. This is normally construed by the fact that the port is squeezed inside the city and it is virtually impossible to develop the rail infrastructure”, specifies the report.

It is planned that the new rail track should enter the area of Dry Port. This would allow them to handle, and if necessary stuff/unstuff the boxes. The company also contemplates cargoes processing by various techniques: wagon – warehouse, wagon – container, etc.

Euroterminal intends to admit via the new rail track any kinds of cargo: containers, dry bulk and general ones.

Upon completion of the approach track construction Euroterminal is going to start erecting a specialised station for handling containers and container trains, as well as a complex for further processing of grains and niche crops.

The Dry Port project is a multimodal logistic centre situated by the railway cargo station Odesa-Peresyp and the main marshalling yard Odesa-Sortirovochna. It is purposed to expand the Odessa Port’s capabilities regarding cargoes transhipment.
