Pivdenny and Poti to Get Linked by Maersk Weekly Feeder Line

20 Сен

The TIS group of terminals in Pivdenny (Yuzhny) and Georgian port Poti are to be connected by a weekly feeder service of the container carrier Maersk, as it has been reported by the TIS DG Andrey Stavnitser.

“From October 2019 Ukraine is becoming a most important point at the Black Sea map, because the transhipment will go through TIS. Up till now the transhipment on the Black Sea was provided only by the Romanian port Constanta. In October TIS will become the second point. The TIS – Poti feeder will sail weekly. this is the service of our good partners Maersk, the shipowner being Emes, a subdivision of the Turkish box line Arkas”, Mr Stavnitser has written in his Facebook.

“We are going to offer shipowners a complex logistic solution beneficial for the both of the Black Sea sides’ countries: Europe and the Baltics, Ukraine and Belarus, the Caucasus and Middle Asia. Previously that cargo flow passed Turkey by railway or a ferry link. It’s long, expensive, and unreasonable”, noted Mr Stavnitser.

The group of terminals TIS is a major private stevedoring company of Ukraine. it operates the terminals TIS-Zerno, TIS-Minudobrenia, TIS-Ruda, TIS-Ugol, and TIS-Container in the sea port of Pivdenny (formerly Yuzhny). The group has invested in the port infrastructure assets $770M. The terminals provide jobs for some 4,000 people. in 2018 the group reduced the throughput if compared to 2017 by 1.2% i.e. down to 25.7M t.
