The state-owned stevedore Sea Trade Port Chornomorsk has started servicing a new regular Black Sea Ro-Ro line of the company Euro Marine Logistics (EML) being a major European operator and a joint venture of the Japanese Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and Norwegian Hoegh Autoliners.

According to Press Office of the STP Chornomorsk, the motor vessel City of Amsterdam performed a pilot call on 21 April delivering 442 Mazda, Subaru and Hyundai motor cars. The second call was on 06 May, the ship’s handling was provided at Berth 28 of the ferry complex (Terminal 5).

“Both calls have shown that transit traffic of Ro-Ro cargoes via the port of Chornomorsk are economically viable for all parties”, indicated Press Office.
The plans of EML concerning a new regular Black Sea service came revealed in March 2019. It was expected that the ports rotation would emrace Piraeus, Novorossiysk, and Chornomorsk. “EML is proud to announce the start of a new trade into the Black Sea, the company reported then. – As from 16 April 2019 our MV City of Amsterdam will be deployed in the Black Sea area where she will connect Greece with Ukraine.”

The City of Amsterdam is a PCC vessel with 700 CEU and 15MT ramp capacity. She is planned to perform this in a fortnightly service.

Multimodal Terminal No. 5 of the state enterprise STP Chornomorsk operates Berths 26-28 of the port, being the only one in Ukraine to service rail ferry and road ferry lines as well as the vessels of Ro-Ro type (roll-on/roll-off i.e. of horizontal loading/discharge).

The terminal’s facilities secure functioning of Euro-Asian Transport Corridor connecting countries of Western Europe, Ukraine, Georgia and Asian states.

The terminal is capable of providing two rail ferry and two road ferry vessels at a time. It has separate accesses for railcars and motor vehicles. Its capacities enable to annually tranship 4.5M t of cargoes in railcars, around 40,000 heavy trucks, and 250,000 units of automotive and agricultural machinery.
