Anaklia Port – First Year of Successful Construction

What was the first year of Anaklia Port construction like, how the century’s project develops and what are the plans for future – Anaklia Development Consortium (ADC) and City of Anaklia have celebrated the first anniversary of the deep-sea port Anaklia and Special Economic Zone presentation.

The presentation of Anaklia progress report was attended by representatives of public and private agencies, business circles and persons interested in the construction and promotion of the century’s project. Anaklia Port and Anaklia Smart Management presented a report on what had been done within the year past, and told about the project’s construction and development plans.

“Anaklia Port is very important for our country. We can say we have comprehensive support from our government as well as other large international financial institutions and influential political circles which proves again the regional and global significance of the deep-sea port of Anaklia”, announced Badri Djaparidze, the Anaklia project’s co-founder.

“Georgia is the only Black Sea nation lacking a deep-sea port, and because of it 75% of container carriers cannot enter Georgia. The mighty port of Anaklia should secure competitiveness of our corridor, and enable our country to maximize economy features of its geographical position”, said Levan Akhvlediani, Director General of ADC.

“Anaklia SEZ is going to become a place where Georgian and international companies would be able to situate their own enterprises, stores and other industrial infrastructure. Zone Complete will be integrated with marine, automotive and railway infrastructure with the SEZ status and tax privileges as well. Companies will have production infrastructure prepared beforehand: roads, electricity, gas and water supplies, sewage, high standards of security and firefighting systems” noted Keti Bochorishvili, Executive Director of Anaklia City.

The session of 2019 also discussed plans. In January there was a tender provided between major international companies and the general contractor of Anaklia Port is going to be known soon.

Let’s remind that the large sea port Anaklia venture was opened on 16 September 2018. Nowadays the first phase of large-scale sea works has been finished as the large deep-sea dredger Athena landed 5M m3 of bottom sands. The reclamation was completed with installation of modern hi-tec drainage systems supplied by the Dutch company Van Oord, and the port territory got prepared for the next phase of marine and land works. All in all at the first phase the investment value of which amounts to 600M USD, there were above 1,500 persons involved in the port operations.

The port’s first stage launching and ships admission is planned on the end of 2020.
