An American company Trammo intends to invest $20M in a new terminal construction to handle mineral fertilisers in the sea port of Batumi, as per News-Georgia.

According to information by Ministry of Economy and Stable Development of Georgia, the project’s presentation took place in Batumi on Monday. Trammo is the project’s investor, the terminal construction will be dealt with by the company Wondernet Express Investment Group. In the course of the presentation an agreement was signed under which Trammo became a co-founder of Wondernet Express Investment Group.

The multimodal terminal erection is planned to be commenced in spring. It will be dedicated to transhipment of granulated carbamide. The storage will be capable of 60,000 t. The object’s annual throughput capacity is going to reach 1.2M t.

The terminal’s construction envisages creation of a new logistic transport corridor from Central Asia countries to the Black Sea ports transiting via Azerbaijan. Wondernet Express Investment Group has already signed agreements on the logistic corridor creation with the project’s main partners: Georgian Railway, Batumi Sea Port, Azerbaijan Railway and Baku International Sea Trade Port.

“This is a vital project, one of large American direct investments to be welcomed. Attraction of cargoes from Central Asia would load our railway as well and create new jobs”, declared Minister of Economy Georgi Kobulia.

LLC Batumi Sea Port is in long-term management by Batumi Industrial Holdings Ltd, a daughter company of the Kazakhstani JS KazTransOil since February 2008. In 2017 the port’s throughput shrank by 25% as compared to 2016 — down to 4.2M t, including the dry cargo decrease by 9.1% i.e. to 795,000 t, while the container turnover enlarged by 35.5% — up to 76,025 TEU.
