Ukrainian ports improve position in the WEF Global Competitiveness Rating

Odessa, Ukraine (PortSEurope) October 21, 2018 – For the fourth consecutive year, Ukrainian seaports have improved their position in the ranking of global competitiveness (Global Competitiveness Report 2018), compiled by the World Economic Forum. In the latest version of the rating published on WEF in October 2018, Ukraine’s port services and infrastructure received a score of 3.5, and according to this indicator, the country ranked 77th.

Improving the position of Ukrainian ports by 0.3 points compared to last year, means that the country has risen 16 places to 93rd place in the ranking.

The results of the global competitiveness rating are a real business assessment of the changes taking place in the port industry and the logistics of the country as a whole. In the draft Strategy for the Development of Seaports of Ukraine until 2038, the position in the ranking is one of the key indicators of the effectiveness of the work of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), said USPA head Raivis Veckagans. His target is a level above 5 points.

The Global Competitiveness Index is a global study and its ranking of countries around the world in terms of economic competitiveness. Calculated according to the methodology of the World Economic Forum, based on a combination of publicly available statistics and the results of a global survey of company executives – a major annual study conducted by the World Economic Forum in partnership with partner organizations – leading research institutes and organizations in the analyzed countries. in the report. The research has been conducted since 2004 and at present represents the most complete set of indicators of competitiveness in different countries of the world.

The WEF Global Competitiveness Index has 12 components. It is the quality of institutions, the state of infrastructure, the penetration of IT and modern communications, macroeconomic stability, the consumer market, the labor market, the financial system, the size of the domestic market, health, education and skills, the dynamics of business development, the ability to innovate.
