Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine Standing for Port Concession Projects Fruition in Ukraine, as per Minister Omelian

MIU advocates realisation of concession projects in the ports of Ukraine. This was proclaimed by Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian today on 16 August 2018 during his meeting with Saeed Al Zari, DP World First Vice Chairman of the Board, and Abdulla Mohamed Zayed, Business Development Manager at Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company).
MIU actively works on reforming of maritime and port sector of Ukraine: renovation of port tariffs forming techniques, procedure of compensation for the funds invested in ports’ strategic infrastructure, border crossing control procedures facilitation, enhancement of the ports’ intermodality.
Volodymyr Omelian stressed that substantial attention is paid to implementation of innovative technologies – smart-infrastructure and smart-mobility, and intellectual transport patterns: “We give particular consideration to the digital infrastructure development. This year we launch а great transport innovations centre. Ukraine boasts high-quality IT experts working all over the world. The digital infrastructure development is among our ministry’s priorities”.
The Ukrainian part is interested in involving foreign investments in the country’s transport and routes system: in the ports of Ukraine infrastructure, in building and modernising motor roads in the Ukrainian territory, in electrification of railways, and in high speed traffic development.
Mr Omelian has expressed his hopes towards a constructive dialogue with investors in respect of practical steps in the field of Ukraine’s sea ports infrastructure development: “I do believe that we shall jointly with DP World implement the Yuzhny port concession project and this would be only a start. There are a lot of opportunities in Ukraine for both DP World and other investors from the UAE. Global companies bring the global level to the economies where they work”.
The DP World representatives have also expressed their concern in a logistic park’s creation and development in the port of Yuzhny and Odessa Region.
Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine supports working out and implementing concession projects enabling to involve private investors into the ports, to enlarge the cargo throughput and enhance the ports’ competitiveness.
Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine has mentioned that the Ukrainian part provides systematic activities towards creating maximally comfortable conditions for the investment background growth in the country. As of today, Ukraine’s legislation in force has settled all relevant fundamentals to guarantee the equal protection of rights, interests and assets of investment entities, founded the base for the PPP development and enhancement of the management system of public investments.
